
Chapter One: The Boy in the Iceberg

Chapter Two: The Avatar Returns

Chapter Three: The Southern Air Temple

- Aang used to play airball.

- Zuko’s been hunting the Avatar for two years.

Chapter Four: The Warriors of Kyoshi
At least a week has passed. Three days elapse.
- “There have been multiple sightings of the Avatar” (1:45) and the map of the avatar’s whereabouts all over the four nations shortly thereafter.
- “At this rate, we won’t get to the North Pole until the Spring.” (3:01)
- Kyoshi Warriors attack the Gaang.
- “Avatar Kyoshi was born here 400 years ago” (6:10) “She’s been dead for centuries!”
- The Avatar is on Kyoshi Island. Because he stayed too long he sees what he brought to their town.
- Sokka and Suuki share their first kiss. (20:49)
Chapter Five: The King of Omashu
Maybe two days have passed? Three days elapse.
- Snow on the mountains (1:18) Snow in Omashu (3:43)
- Aang used to visit Bumi. (4:15)
- “Technically Aang is 112 years old.” (1:39)
- “As you said a long time ago, I had to open my brains to the possibilities.” (21:00)
- “The world has changed in the 100 years you’ve been gone.” (21:52)
- First day they arrive in Omashu, second day is the trials (Katara & Sokka will be covered in crystal by nightfall), third day Bumi and Aang ride the slides.
Chapter Six: Imprisoned
A couple days have passed. Three days elapse.
- “Nice guy, how long has the Fire Nation been here?” (4:04) “Five years.”
- The Fire Nation has taken away Haru’s father.
- Sleep here today, leave in the morning.
- Katara imprisons herself for a planned “12 hours”.
- The plan for the people on the metal rig prison is to wait out this war.
- Aang comes to grab Katara at midnight of the second. “Your 12 hours are up.”
- “It’s almost dawn” of the third day. (18:30)
- Zuko finds Katara’s mother’s necklace. (22:50)
Chapter Seven: The Spirit World (Winter Solstice, Part 1)
Likely a couple days to a week has passed. 2 Days elapse.
- Aang doesn’t know how to do his job in protecting nature. (2:20)
- Roku is the Avatar before Aang, who died over 100 years ago. (2:34)
- “For the last few days at Sunset, a spirit monster comes and attacks our village.” (5:10) Hei Bai, the black and white spirit. “Each of the last three nights he has abducted one of our own.” (5:25)
- “We’re especially fearful because the Winter Solstice draws near.” (5:27) “As a Solstice appears, the natural world and the spirit world grow closer and closer, until the line between them is blurred completely.”
- “The once great General Iroh.” (7:30)
- “You once laid siege to it for 600 days.” (11:54) Ba Sing Se
- “You’re Avatar Roku’s animal guide.” (15:00)
- Iroh has a unique link to the spirit world, and can interact with them. (15:42)
- First glimpse of Sozin’s comet. (17:00)
- Three days are shown to elapse between the second day of this episode’s beginning and the Solstice. (17:20) But this isn’t accurate as Katara claims the Solstice is tomorrow.
- “It’s a calendar and the light will hit Roku on the Solstice.” (17:32) 48 rays of sunlight (sundial of 24 hours). 52 divisions, or weeks. 12 Months, every third month marked with different demarkation denoting water, earth, fire, and air. The markings that separate each season are Chinese for Winter/Summer Solstice, and Spring/Fall Equinox.

Chapter Eight: Avatar Roku (Winter Solstice, Part 2)
Several hours have passed. One day’s elapsed.
- Aang wants to leave in the middle of the night without Katara and Sokka. “I need to get to the Fire temple before the sun sets on the Solstice. That’s today!” (1:35)
- ”Of all the foolish things you have done in your 16 years, Prince Zuko, this is the most foolish.” (2:40) “Have you completely forgotten that the Fire Lord banished you?” (2:50)
- The Fire Sages are guardians of the Temple of the Avatar.
- “Avatar Roku once called this Temple his home.” (10:32) “He formed these secret passages out of the magma.” The Fire Sage that is helping Aang and company didn’t know Roku, but his grandfather did. “Many generations of Fire Sages guarded this Fire Temple before me.”
- “A few weeks ago, an amazing thing occurred.” (10:52) Avatar Roku’s eyes began glowing when Team Avatar was at the air temple.
- “When Roku died, the Sages eagerly awaited for the next Avatar to return, but he never came”. (11:19)
- “Fire Lord Sozin began the war.” (11:34)
- “It’s good to see you Aang, what took you so long?”
- “100 years ago, Fire Lord Sozin used that comet to begin the war” (17:48)
- “Sozin’s comet will return by the end of the Summer.” (18:14)
- “Aang, you must defeat the fire Lord before the comet arrives” (18:33)
- “Mastering the elements takes years of discipline and practice.” (18:40)
- “But if the world is to survive”, in the animated series, “you must do it by summer’s end.” (18:50)
- “I know you can do it, Aang, for you have done it before.” (19:14)

- “Well, let’s see.” (01:13) “You pretty much mastered air bending, and that only took you 112 years; I’m sure you could master 3 more elements by next summer.”
- “I haven’t even started water bending and we’re still weeks away from the North Pole.” (1:22)
- “It took me two months to learn that move.” (4:03)
- Sky is a burnt orange afternoon. (11:30) The passage of time is well documented visually.

Chapter Ten: Jet
At least a day has passed. Three days elapse.

- Jet and his Freedom Fighters were waiting to ambush those people all morning.
- The Fire Nation took over an Earth Kingdom village “a few years back.” (7:56)
- The Fire Nation killed Jets parents when he was 8 years old. (8:31)

Chapter Eleven: The Great Divide
Likely a couple days have passed. Three days elapse.
- “But seeing as how its the dry season, you’re not.” (1:11)

- Ba Sing Se is “thousands of miles away.” (3:10)
- the Zhang tribe have been the enemy of the Gan Jin tribe “for 100 years.” (3:23) They both became refugees during the 100 year war.
- “These people have been feuding for 100 years.” (5:01)
- “You babies can go a day without food.” (6:21) Meaning the journey could be roughly 24 hours.
- Waning crescent moon over the second night (11:03)
- Jin Wei, the patriarch of the Gan Jin tribe was transporting a sacred orb of ritual redemption to a gate. Wei Jin was attacked.
- “Our conflict with the Gan Jin goes back over a hundred years,” (13:12)
- Wei Jin was arrested for taking the orb, though the Zhang claim it was to bring it back to the Gan Jin.“ They sentenced him to 20 long years in prison.” (14:09)

- “I might not look it, but I’m 112 years old.” (21:01) I was there 100 years ago on the day you’re talking about. Aang claims they were brothers of 8 playing a game. But he made the whole thing up.
Chapter Twelve: The Storm
A couple days have passed. A couple days probably. 1 day elapses.
- First day after Aang wakes from nightmare of storm. (2:21)
- Geese migrating south (2:26) “A storm is approaching from the North.” (3:02) The geese are seen to be going South. Still very much winter.
- “the Avatar disappeared for 100 years!” (6:26) “you turned your back on the world.”
- “I’ll never forget the day the monks told me I was the Avatar.” (8:07) “We have known you were the Avatar for some time.” (8:59) “The toys you picked were the four Avatar relics.” (9:15) This is the same test featured heavily in The Rise of Kyoshi.
- “Normally we would have told you of your identity when you turned 16, but there are troubling signs.” (9:30)
- “But the 41st is entirely new recruits.” (11:10) Fire Lord Division.
- Zuko spoke up at the War council, but there were “dire consequences.”
- “Zuko would have to duel his own father.” (14:18)
- Avatar Aang was to be separated from Monk Gyatzo, and be sent to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training. (14:55)
- Aang ran away and became encased in a glacier after capsizing in a storm with Appa.
- “The world needs you now. You give people hope.” (16:57)
- Prince Zuko is attacked by his father during an Agni Kai. (17:40) “As punishment he was banished and sent to capture the Avatar.” (18:05) “The important thing is, the Avatar gives Zuko hope.” (18:26)

Chapter Thirteen: The Blue Spirit
Two days have passed. Two days elapse.
- Zhao is promoted to Admiral. (2:17)
- Sokka has a fever which he likely received from being out at sea during a storm recently. “Being out in that storm really did a number on him.” (2:59) Katara gets sick too.
- “That’s how Sokka started yesterday.” (3:35)
- “We haven’t been able to pick up the Avatar’s trail since the storm.” (4:16)
- “I’ve been up here for over 40 years” says the medicine woman (6:25) “Used to be others, but they all left years ago.”
- Aang is captured by Zhou’s forces. (10:12)
- “Until today, only one thing stood in our path to victory: the Avatar!” (13:12)
- “This is the year Sozin’s Comet returns!” (13:25) Meaning we’re now in the next year. “This is the year the Fire Nation breaks through the walls of Ba Sing Se.” (13:33)
- “Before the war started I used to always visit my friend Kuzan. The two of us, we’d get in and out of so much trouble together.” (21:12) He was from the Fire Nation.
Chapter Fourteen: The Fortuneteller
At least a day has passed. Two days pass.
- “The sky’s been gray all day.” (4:20) It wasn’t gray when Aang gave them the swamp frogs to such on the morning after he was captured by Admiral Zhao, so this must be the next day, at least.
- Katara is going to marry a “very powerful bender,” (7:33) according to Aunt Wu.
- “The cloud readings will tell us if Mt. Makapu will remain dormant for another year, or if it will erupt.” (10:26)
- “We used to have a tradition once a year of going up the mountain to check the volcano ourselves.” (10:32) “But ever since Aunt Wu moved to the village 20 years ago, we have a tradition of not doing that.”
- Aunt Wu’s predictions to the crowd show that it’s early in the year: “Good crops this year, nice big harvest” (11:16) “Gonna be a great year for twins.”(11:26) “The village will not be destroyed by the volcano this year.” (11:36)
- Aang professes his love for Katara for the first time. (11:45)
- “You’ll have your third great grandchild before quietly passing away in your sleep.” (12:53) About Katara.
Chapter Fifteen: Bato of the Water Tribe
A couple days likely pass. Two days elapse.
- Flashback to the Southern Water Tribe 2 years ago. (1:13)
- “Dad was here.” (1:59)
- Full moon (3:03, 8:19)
- “No, he (their father) and the other warriors should be in the Eastern Earth Kingdom by now.” (4:08)
- “After I was wounded, your father carried me to this abbey. (4:23)
- Hakoda said he’d send a message to Bato when they found the rendezvous point. Could be there any day now.
- “It’s been over 2 years since we’ve seen dad.” (8:01)
- Next day, overlooking ruins. (9:37)
- Bato’s ship was built by his father. (10:29)
- Ice dodging is a right of passage for Water Tribe men. At the age of 14 your dad takes you. (11:00)
- “The girl (Katara) musta spent a lot of time here.” (11:17)
- Iroh: “At my age there is really only one big surprise left.” (11:31)
- The Mark of the Wise that Sokka earns from Bato is the same one Sokka’s father earned. (13:54)
- Katara kisses Aang for the first time. (23:04)
Chapter Sixteen: The Deserter
One Day passes. Two days pass.
- Fire Festival boasts delicious foods. (1:13)
- Che was a Fire Nation soldier. (6:41)
- “Jeong Jeong the deserter” (6:54) He was a high ranking Fire National.
- “Before learning firebending you must learn water and earth.” (10:55)
- Roku shows up to give Jeong Jeong a visit to convince him to teach Aang.
- Roku: “I have mastered the elements a thousand times in a thousand lifetimes. Now, I must do it once again.” (11:34)
- Next day. (11:56)
- Jeong Jeong once had a pupil who only cared about how to wield fire against his enemies. (13:41) It was Admiral Zhao. “My old teacher gave up fighting a long ago.” (18:11)
- Katara learns to heal herself using waterbending after Aang burns her by mistake. (16:58)
Chapter Seventeen: The Northern Air Temple
A couple days have passed. Two days showcased (about 20 hours elapse).
- “Great granpapi saw the Airwalkers last week.” (1:56)
- Day 2 (2:02)
- “Hey we’re almost to the Northern Air Temple.” (2:07) “This is where they had the championships for sky bison polo.”
- “This is supposed to be the history of my people.” (5:51)
- “But you’re 12.” (7:07)
- “A long time ago, but not 100 years, my people became refugees after a terrible flood. My infant son, Teo, was badly hurt and lost his mother. I needed somewhere to rebuild.” (7:19) “I stumbled across this place.”
- “Four flashes, so it’s exactly four hours past midday.” (8:36)
- Teo’s father is making weapons for the fire nation. (13:30)
- “It was about a year after we moved here.” (13:48) “Fire Nation Soldiers found our settlement.”
- The Fire Nation is coming “soon.” (14:24)
- Sokka rides the first ever war balloon into battle. (20:42)
- The Fire Nation discovers the downed war balloon. (22:49) “This defeat is the gateway to many victories.”
Chapter Eighteen: The Waterbending Master
Two days have passed. Four days elapse.
- “We’re all just a little tired and cranky because we’ve been flying for two days straight.” (1:17)
- “The water tribe is a great nation. There’s a reason they’ve survived a hundred years of war.” (2:09)
- Waning crescent moon (3:47)
- “Winter Spring Summer and Fall” sings Uncle Iron (4:00), so the seasons follow the natural cycle we have on earth.
- “We also celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday.” (5:03) “Princess Yue is now of marrying age.”
- “So it looks like I’m gonna be in town for a while.” (6:07)
- “I will see you both at sunrise.” (6:45)
- Day two (8:12)
- Katara “I’ve waited for this day my whole life,” (8:16) on learning to bend.
- “My grandmother gave my mother this necklace. And my mother passed it down to me.” (11:47)
- “When I was about your age, I was friends with Kana. She was born here in the Northern Tribe.” (12:04) She left without saying goodbye after receiving the necklace from her betrothed.

- Third day (16:12)
- “I made this 60 years ago for the love of my life.” (20:12) He carved the necklace when they got engaged.

Chapter Nineteen: The Siege of the North, Part 1
At least a week has passed. Two days featured.
- It’s plausible that a week or two has elapsed since Katara and Aang began their training at the North Pole; her skills have increased dramatically.
- “Katara, you have advanced more quickly than any student I have ever trained.” (1:30)
- Yue: “I can’t believe you do this every day.” (2:58)
- Sokka saw soot before his village was attacked. (3:53)
- Iron: “Be careful what you wish for, Admiral. History is not always kind to its subjects.” (4:27) He refers to his own failure at Ba Sing Se.
- “The day we have feared for so long has arrived. The Fire Nation is on our doorstep.” (5:48)
- The Fire Nation uniforms they’re using are from “85” years ago. (10:44) Meaning the Fire Nation likely attacked the Northern Water Tribe 15 years into their campaign.
- Princess Yue is marrying Hans(?)
- Nearly Full moon (11:59) “The Waterbenders draw their power from the moon, and it is nearly full tonight.”
- Near Full Moon (12:50, 15:29, 16:08)
- “Ever since I lost my son… ” (13:12)
- “The legends say the moon was the first waterbender. Our ancestors watched as it pushed and pulled the tides and learned how to do it themselves.” (15:29)
- Second day (21:21) “It’s daybreak at last – let’s write history.”
- “You rise with the moon. I rise with the Sun.” (21:53) Firebenders are strongest during daylight.
- Snow falls as Zuko has Aang. (22:53)
Chapter Twenty: The Siege of the North, Part 2
Same day as second day featured. Two days featured.
- Roku appears to Aang in the Spirit World (2:29, 3:11, 10:18)
- “The ocean and the moon are ancient spirits. They crossed over from the spirit world to the mortal world very near the beginning.” (3:15)
- The only spirit old enough to remember the Moon and Ocean spirits is Koh (that Roku knows).
- “Everything always came easy to” Zuko’s sister Azula (4:22) “She was a firebending prodigy”
- “If we don’t defeat the water tribe before the full moon rises,” (5:16) “they will be undefeatable.”
- “Years ago,” Zhao learned of the Moon Spirits mortal form when he was a young lieutenant. (5:41)
- “I’ve heard rumors of your journey into the Spirit World.” (6:22)
- Koh claims it’s been a long time since he’s seen the Avatar, (7:50) that one of the Avatars previous incarnations tried to slay Koh “8 or 9 hundred years ago”. This is because he stole the face of someone he loved. It was a male Avatar.
