It was announced earlier, via Deadline, that Michael Waldron has been tapped to write the script for the final chapter in the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: Secret Wars. The fact that Marvel has snagged Waldron to close out Phase 6 has drawn some ire from MCU fans, as many believe the supposed issues with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stem from the script. Still others believe the rumors that the film had behind the scenes issues that called Waldron’s script into question.
Whatever the case, Michael Waldron’s hiring as scribe is extremely fitting. Between the MCU’s introduction to the multiverse in Loki, and the further exploration of its ramifications in Multiverse of Madness, nobody has a stronger grasp on the boundaries and rules of the multiverse than he. I also hold the position that there has been no better written single title in the MCU than Loki’s first season. Considering Avengers: Secret Wars will wrap up the arc that started and flourished under his penmanship, I can think of no writer better fit to helm it.
While we’re still a ways off from the 2025 release, the speculation as to what we can expect from the film is exciting. For Secret War’s predecessor, Avengers: Kang Dynasty, they’ve similarly tapped another writer with some significant experience in the MCU’s multiverse in Jeff Loveness, who previously wrote the script for the Kang-heavy Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It looks as though the multiverse is just opening up, and using writers that have already shepherded it’s rules and borders to close out this second saga is a particularly apt choice.
Avengers: Secret Wars arrives on November 7, 2025.
