According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple is expected to Thursday that it has struck a deal with a wide array of major and mini studios to offer many new releases for purchase at its iTunes store. These new arrangement involves studios such as 20th Century Fox, New Line, Universal, Sony Pictures, Lionsgate and Warner Bros. This could include available on some older releases as well for some titles that would be very cool to us fan boys such as Serenity, Lord of the Rings, Batman Begins, and Superman Returns.
This announcement comes off the heels of the announcement in January that many of their movies would be avaialiable for rental and not purchase. I, for one, was not happy with the iTunes rental system and am happy that they’re making the foray back into purchasing movies. I am anxious to see what movies could come out of this new deal.
Thanks to Comingsoon.net for this news tip!
BIG UPDATE: This new deal has gone into full effect, as all movies that were once available for rent are now available for purchase. This includes iTunes’ superhero films which happen to include Batman Begins and Superman Doomsday. Now if we can have the movies up there, why do we not have Smallville up on iTunes?
