Thoughts on Iron Man

iron_man.jpgIn some states, the much anticipated Marvel superhero film, Iron Man, is being released a day earlier in the same way that Transformers was released two days earlier last year.

For those of you who are seeing it, please post your thoughts below without being as spoilery as possible.

Thanks a bunch!

More Hobbit News!

gandalf.jpgEmpire Online has an interview with Ian McKellen, where he confirmed himself that he WILL be returning in the rold of Gandalf for the Hobbit features. other things of note in this interview is he kind of reveals the shooting schedule for the movie and his feelings on playing Gandalf.

This news has me excited as I cannot wait to see McKellen return to the grey robes for The Hobbit.

Tim’s Take: The End of Smallville

smallville.jpgNow, I know it’s been a while since the last Tim’s Take, but I thought I might just write a new one. Hopefully, this segment will be a little bit more regular than it has been. With the seventh season of Smallville wrapping up with its final three episodes and with one season to go, I thought now as good a time as many as to weigh my thoughts as to how the series will end.

Justice League on BluRay

justiceleague_s1_blu.jpgWith the hi-def war finally ended and decided on BluRay, many DVDs have made that transition over to BluRay. One that already made the transition for some time is Warner Bros. Undoubtedly, with the success of The New Frontier, WB announced that they will be releasing the critically acclaimed Justice League animated series to BlurRay starting with the first season. The release of the first season of the Justice League on BluRay is to be August 29, 2008. No news on what special features will be on this Bluray. It just may be some of the special features from the original Justice League DVD may transfer over or maybe WB has some other ideas for some new special features, come August.

Stay tuned for updates.

Thanks to TVShowsonDVD.com for the news.

New Transformers 2 Casting

jonah.jpgAccording to Entertainment Weekly, comedic actor Jonah Hill (Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is in talks to star in the role of Shia LaBeouf’s roommate at Princeton in the upcoming Transformers sequel.

IESB.net lists the role as thus:

“[CHUCK] 19-25 yrs., Sam’s roommate at Princeton. He runs a conspiracy theory website. Funny in an irreverent, edgy way, he is shocked to see his conspiracy theories come to life. (2nd Lead)”

Now if this actor is set to play this role, I think he would have to roll off of Shia’s comedic prowess. I think that this guy can definitely pull that off.Now I have not seen the movies for which he is famous for, so I’m just guessing from what I’ve seen in the trailers for those movies. But it looks like he could be good for this movie. He might be like the big guy who was in the first movie.

Transformers 2 is set to be released on June 26, 2009.

Hugh Jackman talks Wolverine

wolverine.jpgWhen this first site first started, I started talking about my excitement and enthusiasm for the new X-Men prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But since then, there has been a moratorium on all things Wolverine.

Well, recently, MTV recently interviewed Hugh Jackman about the new film, which Jackman calls the “Batman Begins” for Wolverine. In it, he talks more about the movie, and if he would be up to more sequels.

A New Dark Knight Trailer . . .

y170104826696214.jpgThe latest trailer for the much anticipated Batman sequel, the Dark Knight, has been released.

Forgive the grainy quality, but it is still pretty darn good. It makes me excited for this film even more than I was. I honestly don’t think that there is anything that can make me less excited than I already am.

This trailer really showcased Heath Ledger’s acting ability as the Joker, and it was really awesome. He plays the Joker perfectly.

LOST: 4×12 - “There’s No Place Like Home, Part 1″ Official Description

ABC has released the official description for the penultimate episode, “There’s No Place Like Home, Part 1,” due to air on May 15, 2008.

Now, if you’re looking for spoilers in this description, you won’t find any, because it is the vaguest official description I have ever read.

But it still got me excited for the episode.

Birds of Prey DVD News

birds_of_prey_dvd.jpgEarlier on this site, I posted that the WB, in concordance with the Dark Knight, will be releasing the Batman-esque series, Birds of Prey, in July.

Well, now we have some idea at what the cover is going to look like. If you look to the right, you can see it for yourself.

Big thanks to Comics2Film for providing this cover art!

Sarah Connor Chronicles DVD News!

sarah_connor_chronicles.jpgEarlier, it was reported that Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles was heading to DVD in August. Well, in other news, exec. producer James Middleton revealed to several sites that not only is the DVD coming out then, but that there will be commentaries on the Pilot, Dungeons and Dragons (the “future war” episode), and the finale, What He Beheld. Also, there are some mini-documentaries filmed for the DVD.

So it seems like this will be a monster of a DVD when it is released. No cover art yet, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it is released. Stay tuned here for more details as that unfolds.

Thanks to MovieWeb for this tidbit.

hr_the_dark_knight_5.jpgComingsoon.net has released a new poster for the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight, and I have to say that it looks awesome.

LOST DVD News

lost-s4_dvd.jpgSeveral information details regarding LOST’s 4th season DVD release has bene posted on TVShowsonDVD.com, including a cover art and a release date.

To get y’all excited, the release date for LOST Season 4 will be on December 9, 2008 on Standard DVD and BluRay Disc, and will have have five discs in its set. I think this a pretty good indication on how the rest of the seasons of LOST will be released, as well, as it was when season 3 was released this past year.  There are many special features planned including information about the Freighter Folk, The music, The guns on LOST and much much more!

Big thanks to TVShowsonDVD.com for providing this info.

Smallville Reviews Are Back!!!

It should please everyone to know that as Smallville has returned to the CW recently, it shall also return to GeeKRitique. Having seen things unfold in the past 2 weeks on Smallville, I decided it felt right to bring those reviews back to this page.

So look for reviews on the past 2 Smallville episodes, Descent and Sleeper very soon.

Superhero Flix interviews T:SCC’s Josh Friedman

cameron.jpgThe website, Superheroflix, recently had the opportunity to have an exclusive interview with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles exeutive producer Josh Friedman. In this interview, he discussed the possibility of more “future-war” stories (Dungeons and Dragons of season 1), more character development for Brian Austin Green’s character, and much much more.

He did say that the according to supervising producer James Middleton, the season 1 DVD is due to be released in August of this year, and also confirmed that everyone WILL be back this season, including Summer Glau, who was seen at the last in an exploding car in the finale.

But hey, read the interview here! It’s pretty cool.

More “Sarah Connor” News

sarah.jpgMore and more sources are reporting that Fox’s hit TV series of the season, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, so I guess we can only assume it’s official, right?

Well, to fuurther confirm that news, IFmagazine has reported that Fox has plans to produce a companion series to the Sarch Connor Chronicles. No details on what this series is about, or what it could hold for the future of the show. But, rest assure, details will be found here as they are made available.

NBC’s plans for “Crusoe”

Now I don’t normaly post new TV serioes news unless it is extremely noteworthy (in the case of Dollhouse). But I thought that this one was worth mentioning.

In the fall, NBC has plans to produce a TV series entitled Crusoe. If you’re familiar with the Daniel DeFoe novel, Robinson Crusoe, and its many onscreen adaptations, you know what it’s about. But if you’re not, here’s a rundown. The story centers on Robinson Crusoe, who leaves his wife to go on an adventure only to find himself shipwrecked for 28 years on a remote tropical island.

Two roles for this risky TV series have been cast. One being the title character of Robinson Crusoe, who is to be played by Phillip Winchester. The other role that has been cast is the role of Crusoe’s wife, who is to be played by Anna Walton. Now I have heard of nothing abut these actors. So it’ll interesting to see how they play these roles.

Another interesting factor qwill be how it will compare to ABC’s megahit series LOST, which is another TV series whose main events transpire on a remote tropical island.  I, for one, will be tuning in to this show when it makes its grand debut on NBC in the fall.

New “Prince Caspian” Trailer

caspian.jpgToday, on Myspace’s video subsite, MyspaceTV, has released a cool new trailer for the latest installment of The Chronicles of Narnia, “Prince Caspian”.

Dollhouse Begins Shooting Today

whedon_joss2.jpgYep, you heard me right. Today, Joss Whedon returns to his own TV set to direct the pilot for his latest upcoming TV effort, Dollhouse, starring Eliza Dushku.

This gets me excited to know that Joss has returned to his forte of storytelling. Sure, Serenity was awesome, and ok, the Buffy Season 8 comics have been pretty good. But I think everyone reading this knows that Joss’ best work is seen on the small screen. So it is great to know that he is back, telling the stories that he loves.

Welcome back to television, Joss. We’ve all missed you.

UPDATE: Dollhouse even has its own IMDB page here.

A bit of sad news . . .

Regarding recent events in my life, I will not be able to devote as much time to the TV Episode reviews as I would like. So everything that is in GeeKritique here will be very much the news scene. However, some shows that will still be covered here will be Heroes and LOST. Those are two shows I definitely want to cover.

I hope to do some books or comics in the near future. So stay tuned for that.

Thanks to all who have supported me in this thus far, but it is a decision that I’ve made that feels right for me right now.  Thank you.

A Noteworthy Podcast

egeekly.jpegMy friend Dave has created a really good podcast that is getting its sealegs in, and I think that you should all give it a listen. It really is something great. The podcast is entitled “Entertainment Geekly” and in it he talks about all the noteworthy geeky stuff including Movies, TV Shows, Comics, Books, Podcasts and Video Games. But what really separates this podcast apart from the others in the “geek” podcast genre is the music segment, which I am looking forward to seeing develop in future episodes.

Also, in the first episode, he discusses, among various podcasts, my Supernatural podcast, Crossroads, and also mentions a GeeKritique a little bit. But that’s not why I want you to listen. It’s really a great podcast that is really the start of something huge.

So check it out and listen here.

Note: It’s also in my list of links to the side, so check it out there too.

Joss Whedon and Ronald D Moore to guest in Robot Chicken

robot_chicken_logo.jpgAt the New York Comic-Con, Seth Green has reported that Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and soon-to-be Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon and Battlestar Galactica creator and showrunner Ronald D. Moore will be guest-starring in an episode of Robot Chicken.

If you recall, Joss Whedon previously guested in an episode of Robot Chicken where he fought the Mutant Enemy monster, which was pretty hillarious, I must say. So I’m excited to see what Seth Green and the boys at Robot Chicken cook up.

Justice League movie cancelled?

justice_league.jpgIt has been reported on several sites that the Justice League movie, which has been titled Justice League: Mortal, may be cancelled for the time being. After months of hearing the fact that WB has been pushing this movie (which I think was due to the popular Smallville episode of last year), Movie producer Joel Silver has said that the movie has been tabled for now.

How do I feel about this? Well, I am actually kind of glad about this. I don’t think a Justice League film needs to be made at this point. I feel that the remaining Batman and Superman movies need to be made first, and maybe introduce some other characters through various solo movies. SO I interpret this as good news for me.

What do you think about this? Discuss here!

Sarah Connor Renewed?

connor.jpgMichael Ausiello confirms in his blog that the short-lived Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will not be receiving the Firefly treatment.

Although it is not confirmed by 20th Century Fox, several sources have clued into him that it will be renewed for a second season. I for one, am excited about this and am interested in the stories that will be told in a second season.

Check out the de-scoopage here!

Ronald D. Moore to pen a Sci-Fi Trilogy

moore.jpgIt has recently been reported by Comingsoon.net that Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore has signed with United Artists to create and write a science fiction trilogy. Details on this new project are being kept under wraps by UA, but if it is anything like what Battlestar Galactica has been the past few years, I think we are in for quite a treat.

Buffy and Fray in Season 8?

buffy16.jpgComic Book Resources recently interviewed Buffy Season 8 assistant editor Erica Hahn where she confirmed their plans for the Buffy and Fray crossover in some upcoming season 8 comics.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Fray was a comic that was penned by Joss Whedon a few years back, which told the story of a Slayer in the future. Now I personally have not read this comic but I am interested to see how they’ll bridge the gap between Buffy and Fray.

LOST Season Finale Title Revealed!

In a teleconference with executive producers of Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, it was revealed that the title for the 2-part, three-hour season four finale will be “There’s No Place Like Home.”

I think this title will be perfect for the season finale, especially given what this season has been about. This makes me so much more excited to see how this season will play out and how the finales will play a part in the mosaic that is LOST.

UPDATE: More Dollhouse Casting News!

amy_acker.jpgAnother member of the “Echo-verse” (that is what I’m calling the universe in which Dollhouse is set in, I’m starting a trend!) has been cast. This role is the role of Boyd, who is an ex-cop and bodygurard to Echo, Eliza Dushku’s character. That role will be played by Harry Lennix.

Some of Mr. Lennix’s credits include 24 and Commander-In-Chief. Now I have not seen any of those shows so I will be in for a surprise when Mr. Lennix turns up as Boyd.

Thanks to TV Guide for the news!

UPDATE: Joss Whedon has confirmed here that Amy Acker and Miracle Laurie will be playing Dr. Claire Saunders and November respectively. This makes me 10-times more excited about Dollhouse than I was initially. Now you may remember Ms. Acker as the lovely Fred and deadly Illyria from the Buffy spinoff (and most successful spinoff ever in my opinion), Angel.

Now, Miracle Laurie I have not seen anything of, as shehad a mere guest spot on a bit TV Show called Medical Investigations. But I almost foresee her as the next Summer Glau. But it’s too early to say, of course.

Heroes DVD News!

heroes_season2.jpgTVShowsonDVD.com has reported that the first 2 seaosns of Heroes will be rereleased on BluRay.

Along with announcing their move over to BluRay (since BluRay has won the Hi-Def War), Universal also announced that the second season of Heroes will be released on BluRay and Standard DVD on August 26, 2008. This date is significant because it is the first DVD to be relased globally on BluRay. So it is a big deal! They also announced several other titles making it to BluRay including The Incredible Hulk and The Mummy flicks.

Thanks to TVShowsonDVD.com for providing me with this news.

You can read the official press release that talks about it here.

Geek By Night Taking Off!

geekbynightlogo_banner2b.jpgI am a geek (of sorts) and a listener of many podcasts and audio dramas on the web. There is one that has surfaced lately that is worth noting. It is called Geek By Night.

Geek By Night is an audiodrama podcast written by Scott Carelli of Geekshow.us fame. It is a wonderfully written and well-produced drama that takes the classic concept of superheroes and spins it on its tail. It really is worth listening to. I would recommend it to anyone in need of a good story. It is not only a good story, but chalked full of great pop culture references and humor only a geek can appreciate.

The first episode was released just 2 weeks ago and the 2nd episode was released just today, and I have to say: I am sold! You will not regret it. Plus, the theme song for this show is performed by none other than Nerf Herder (yes, folks, the band that played the Buffy song for all 7 seasons)
